Teleclasses

What Is A Teleclass?

Teleclasses (or teleseminars as they are sometimes called) are a wonderful and affordable alternative to attending a live organizing workshop.  Teleclasses are ideal for people that want to listen and learn in the comfort of their own home or office. Participants dial a phone number using a regular phone, and pay for the long-distance charges, but no conferencing fees. The phone number (called a bridge line), the access code, and guidelines for getting the most out of your teleclass, will be e-mailed to you after you register for the teleclass through my website. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from participants across the country.

Why Learn by Teleclass?

Teleclasses are very accessible, a great value, and an excellent, interactive way for busy professionals and success-oriented individuals to learn.  Unlike classroom based trainings, teleclasses are open to people irrespective of their location and scheduling conflicts.  Generally, your commitment is limited to an hour or so out of your day or evening.  There is no need to take time off of work, no need to travel, and no need to move from the comfort of your own surroundings.

In fact, if you are busy during the actual call’s time slot, no need to worry.  All teleclasses are recorded and the audio is quickly posted online (usually within 24 hours).  You can either listen to the call on the special web page sent to you after the call (by clicking the link provided), or you can download the MP3 file to listen to on your iPod or other MP3 player at your leisure.

In some instances, you will notice that the teleclass includes a transcript.  When appropriate, this option will be offered as an added bonus to accommodate different learning styles. If the teleclass you registered for includes a written transcript, it will usually be ready for download within 5-7 days from the call. You will receive an email with instructions on how to download the transcript to read online, or print and read at your leisure.

What Are the Logistics?

  1. Dial the telephone bridge number provided in the confirmation email after you register.  I recommend calling in approximately 3-5 minutes prior to the teleclass start time to avoid congested phone lines.
  2. Teleclasses will start promptly at the designated time as long as we do not experience a technical problem.
  3.  The dial-in time for each teleclass will be given for Eastern Standard Time (EST).  If you are on a different time zone, please check carefully the time of the call in your time zone.  It is especially important to reconfirm in March and October when daylight savings can change the time.
  4. You will incur regular long distance charges as most teleclasses are not delivered through toll-free lines.
  5. You will hear a recording asking for a PIN or Access Code.
  6. Enter the PIN or Access Code sent to you upon registration .
  7. Wait to be welcomed and acknowledged.  Depending on the teleclass service being used, a recording may prompt you to introduce yourself, or I may ask you to do so.  However, often you will be muted when joining the call as we may start in “presentation” mode before I open the line up for questions.
  8. Just like a live seminar, attendees may participate as much --or as little -- as they wish.

Teleclass Etiquette

In order to make the teleclass a good experience for everyone, please adhere to the following etiquette guidelines:

  • If possible, please use a regular land phone rather than a cell or mobile phone.
  • If you are using a cordless phone, please stay close to the base unit to avoid static on the line.
  • Please don't use a speakerphone as they pick up a lot of background noise.
  • Please disable call waiting before calling into the class so that participants do not hear a potential call waiting beep. You can do this by pressing the following 3 keys in succession: *70 right before dialing the phone number.
  • Please do not put the call on hold. The music can flood the call.
  • Please use the mute button feature to keep background and disruptive noise around you off the teleclass.  You will be advised how to mute and unmute yourself during the call depending on the teleclass service chosen.
  • Please turn off ringers on other phones/fax machines in the vicinity of where you are calling from.
  • Please introduce yourself by first name and location when you enter the call, unless you are entering the call late.
  • There will be opportunities for questions during the teleclass. However, please hold your questions until questions are asked for.
  • Please identify yourself when you do ask a question during a teleclass.
  • Occasionally, there may be a technical problem somewhere in the phone system that might drop you out of the call.  If this happens, simply call back in.  If the problem persists, the issue may be with your own phone line.  If possible you should try another line.
  • If there is a handout provided in the confirmation email sent to you upon registration, be sure to download and/or print it so that you can follow along.  You will undoubtedly get more from the teleclass if you are prepared.

Thank you for observing these etiquette guidelines to ensure that all participants have the best possible teleclass experience.

Your Feedback

Your feedback is what enables me to bring you the best quality teleclasses and to ensure that you get the most from your investment of time, energy, and money.  I will email you a feedback form after your teleclass.  Please take the time to tell me what you liked best about the teleclass and what can be done to improve the teleclasses in the future.  In addition, if there's a particular topic you would like to see offered in the future, please let me know.
